                                               FALL SOFTBALL

Registration is open!!

Softball registration is open through July 9th.

At NKYA, we have a fall recreational softball league for girls ranging in age from 7 to 13.  For the fall of 2020, we will be forming teams and hosting a league that is played at Richardson Road Park on Sundays.  Fall teams will play in the division in which they would've played in the spring of 2020, since the spring season was cancelled.

8U Coach Pitch - 7 and 8 year olds
10U Modified Kid Pitch - 9 and 10 year olds
13U - 11, 12, and 13 year olds  (MIDDLE SCHOOL DIVISION)

Age Policy

The cut-off date for softball is January 1st.  This means that your daughter's age on December 31, 2019 will determine what division she will play in 2020.  For example, if your daughter is 8 on December 31st, 2019, then she will play in the 8U division.  Another example is if your daughter turns 9 on December 31st, 2019, then she will play in the 10U division.
We do have a "play up" policy.  If your daughter is within 1 year of the next division up, then she can "play up" in that division.  For example, if your daughter turned 8 in 2019, then she can "play up" in 10U with 9 and 10 year olds.  If you would like to play up, please contact [email protected] with assistance on registration.

Fees

The fees for 2020 are $90 as we will be running a 10 game season. The fee goes towards the following:
- Uniform (dry-fit shirt)
- Umpires
- Equipment
- Insurance
- Field Maintenance (NKYA is fully responsible for Richardson Road Park)
- Field Rentals

Equipment

Required:
- Glove
- Batting Helmet (Due to Covid-19, we will not be supplying batting helmets.  You can rent one for the season for a deposit of $30.  Upon return, you will receive $20 back. A date will be setup to pass out the helmets.)
- Water Bottle (Due to Covid-19, there will be no team water jugs.  Each player must bring their own and NOT share.)

Optional:
- Cleats (highly recommended, but not required)
- Softball Bat (Bats may be shared, but due to Covid-19, they MUST be sanitized between use.)

Coaches

All of our coaches are 100% volunteers.  They are typically a parent, relative, or friend of a player.   If you are interested in coaching, please register yourself, and then under your account, you will see a "Volunteer" tab.  Click on the tab and select the division that you would like to coach.  All coaches must pass a background check prior to being selected as a coach.  As a coach, NKYA, does not require you to purchase anything, however, you will have to complete a concussion training course.  NKYA will provide you with equipment, uniforms, and practice field.  If you can provide your own practice facility, that would be great as we work every year to obtain additional fields for practices and games.

Practices

Our teams can practice at various locations around Kenton and Boone counties.  Our primary fields are located at Richardson Road Park in Independence.  However, in the fall, we rent various fields around the area due to our soccer program using the fields in the fall.  We also have coaches that provide their own practice fields.  Please note that we cannot fulfill any requests for specific practice locations or nights when registering.  Our coaches select their practice slot after receiving their rosters.

Games

Fall games will be scheduled on Sunday afternoons due to our soccer program using the fields on Saturdays.  Teams will get a 10 game schedule, but that is not guaranteed since we cannot control the weather.  Games will begin July 26th and run into mid October.

Weather Policy

A 20 minute delay will take place at the site of lightening or sound of thunder for all games and practices.  The 20 minute delay will reset on the the latest sight of lightening or sound of thunder.  Typically, a delay will cause a game to be cancelled unless it is the last game of the day as we have games running back-to-back every game day.  When lightening is seen or thunder heard, everyone must leave the playing fields for shelter.  You may only return once the all clear is given.  On games at Richardson Road, an administrator will be making these calls, but during makeups and practices, this will be the coach's responsibility.

We utilize the app Rainout Line as our weather notification system.  This is the system used for all Kenton County Parks.  The app is available for both android and iOS phones.  We also try to email and update our Facebook page when applicable.

Lastly, being an outdoor sport, the weather is a big impact.  There will be times where games will get cancelled on the way to the field or once you get there.  We monitor the weather, but we've seen numerous times where the storm dies or splits before hitting our fields allowing us to play ball.  Therefore, we will hold off until the very last possible minute to cancel games in situations where rain may be moving in, but we will cancel as soon as possible when previous showers make the fields unplayable.
