Northern Kentucky Youth Association

About our Baseball program...

At NKYA, we have an instructional baseball league for boys and girls ranging from 4 years old to 7 years old.  For our 4 and 5 year olds, we offer a t-ball league.  For our 6 and 7 year olds, we offer a coach pitch league.  We try to minimize the size of all teams to maximize playing time as our goal is 10 players on a t-ball team and 12 players on a coach pitch team.

All scheduled games are played at Richardson Road Park.  Practices can take place at Richardson Road Park or a surrounding field as we rent additional field space for practices.

With a record number of girls participating in our program last year, we are now forming all girls t-ball and coach pitch teams for the upcoming season.  These teams will still play in our coed league as we're not to the point of being able to form an all girls league, but it's a way to build teams that can grow together and move up through our softball program.  We've seen the success with our baseball teams that have been able to grow together, that we now want to extend this opportunity with the girls.  We experimented last year in coach pitch, and we had nothing but positive feedback.

When registering, there will be 2 programs for each t-ball and coach pitch.  If you have a daughter that wants to play with a brother or male friend, then please register for the coed program.  If you have a daughter that wants to play on an all girls team, then register for the girls only program.  Again, both will be playing in the same league, so the all girls teams will be playing against the coed teams.

Instructional (coed) - $70
T-ball - 4 and 5 year olds
Coach Pitch - 6 and 7 year olds

Age Policy

All divisions use a May 1st cut-off date.  Therefore, whatever your child's age will be on April 30th, that will determine the division your child will play in.  If your child is 5 on April 30th, then your child would play in the t-ball division.  If your child turns 6 on April 30th, then your child would have to play in the coach pitch division.

T-ball and Coach pitch are $70.

The fees go toward the following:
- Uniform (hat and jersey)
- Equipment
- Insurance
- Field Maintenance (NKYA is fully responsible for Richardson Road Park)
- Field Rentals
- Trophies

All of our coaches are 100% volunteers.  They are typically a parent, relative, or friend of a player.  If you are interested in coaching, please register yourself, and then under your account, you will see a "Volunteer" tab.  Click on the tab and select the division that you would like to coach.  All coaches must pass a background check prior to being selected as a coach.  As a coach, NKYA, does not require you to purchase anything, however, you will be required to take a concussion training course.  NKYA will provide you with equipment, uniforms, and practice field.  If you can provide your own practice facility, that would be great as we work every year to obtain additional fields for practices and games.

Our teams can practice at various locations around Kenton county.  Our primary fields are located at Richardson Road Park in Independence, however, we do rent various fields around the area.  We also have coaches that provide their own practice fields.  Please note that we cannot fulfill any requests for specific practice locations or nights when registering.  Our coaches select their practice slot after receiving their rosters.

T-ball & Coach Pitch
Games will be primarily on Wednesday nights.  T-ball will play at 6pm and coach pitch at 7pm.  If we have more teams than fields on Wednesday nights, there will also be games on Saturday mornings.  We strive for an 8 to 10 game schedule, but we cannot guarantee this as we cannot control the weather.  The games will start April 24th and run through the end of June.

Weather Policy

A 20 minute delay will take place at the site of lightening or sound of thunder for all games and practices.  The 20 minute delay will reset on the the latest sight of lightening or sound of thunder.  Typically, a delay will cause a game to be cancelled unless it is the last game of the day as we have games running back-to-back every game day.  When lightening is seen or thunder heard, everyone must leave the playing fields for shelter.  You may only return once the all clear is given.  On games at Richardson Road, an administrator will be making these calls, but during makeups and practices, this will be the coach's responsibility.

We utilize the app Rainout Line as our weather notification system.  This is the system used for all Kenton County Parks.  The app is available for both android and iOS phones.  We also try to email and update our Facebook page when applicable.

Lastly, being an outdoor sport, the weather is a big impact.  There will be times where games will get cancelled on the way to the field or once you get there.  We monitor the weather, but we've seen numerous times where the storm dies or splits before hitting our fields allowing us to play ball.  Therefore, we will hold off until the very last possible minute to cancel games in situations where rain may be moving in, but we will cancel as soon as possible when previous showers make the fields unplayable.
