Spring Softball Information
At NKYA, we have a recreational softball league for girls ranging in age from 7 to 13. For girls 6 and under, they play in our coed t-ball and coach pitch divisions. We are continuing to expand as we will be playing with St. Pius, Grant County, Walton Verona, Villa Hills, Campbell County, etc to form a solid recreational program for girls to participate. This means more venues, more competition, more opportunities, and more fun. It's a win-win for everyone involved! Below are our divisions for the upcoming Softball Season.
Key Dates for 2024 Spring/Summer Season:March 1st - Registration Deadline
March 25th Week - First day of Practices
April 20th - First day of Games (8U through 13U)
Spring Tournament - June 23rd-30th
Age Policy
Age as of December 31st, 2023
8U Coach Pitch - 7 and 8 year old's
10U Modified Kid Pitch - 9 and 10 year old's
13U - 11, 12, and 13 year old's
The cut-off date for softball is January 1st. This means that your daughter's age on December 31st, 2023 will determine what division she will play in 2024. For example, if your daughter is 8 on December 31st, 2023, then she will play in the 8U division. Another example is if your daughter turns 9 on December 31st, 2023, then she will play in the 10U division. A child who turns 14 after 12/31/23 is eligible to play in 13U that entire calendar year.
We do have a "play up" policy. If your daughter is within 1 year of the next division up, then she can "play up" in that division. For example, if your daughter turned 8 in 2023, then she can "play up" in 10U with 9 and 10 year old's. If you would like to play up, please contact
[email protected] with assistance on registration.

Coaches
All of our coaches are 100% volunteers. They are typically a parent, relative, or friend of a player. If you are interested in coaching, please register yourself, and then under your account, you will see a "Volunteer" tab. Click on the tab and select the division that you would like to coach. All coaches must pass a background check prior to being selected as a coach. As a coach, NKYA, does not require you to purchase anything, however, you will have to complete a concussion training course. NKYA will provide you with equipment, uniforms, and practice field. If you can provide your own practice facility, that would be great as we work every year to obtain additional fields for practices and games. Volunteers are selected at the discretion of the NKYA.
Practices
Our teams can practice at various locations around Kenton and Boone counties. Our primary fields are located at Richardson Road Park in Independence, however, we do rent various fields around the area. We also have coaches that provide their own practice fields. Please note that we cannot fulfill any requests for specific practice locations or nights when registering.
Our coaches select their practice slot after receiving their rosters.
Games
The majority of the regular season games tend to be held on Saturdays but there could be an occasional Sunday or make up game during the week. Teams will get a 10 game schedule, but that is not guaranteed since we cannot control the weather. Games will begin in April and run through the end of June.
Weather Policy
A 30 minute delay will take place at the sight of lightening for all games and practices. The 30 minute delay will reset on the the latest sight of lightening. Typically, a delay will cause a game to be cancelled unless it is the last game of the day as we have games running back-to-back every game day. When lightening is seen, everyone must leave the playing fields for shelter. You may only return once the all clear is given. On games at Richardson Road, an administrator will be making these calls, but during makeups and practices, this will be the coach's responsibility.
We utilize the app Rainout Line as our weather notification system. This is the system used for all Kenton County Parks. The app is available for both android and iOS phones. We also try to email and update our Facebook page when applicable.
Lastly, being an outdoor sport, the weather is a big impact. There will be times where games will get cancelled on the way to the field or once you get there. We monitor the weather, but we've seen numerous times where the storm dies or splits before hitting our fields allowing us to play ball. Therefore, we will hold off until the very last possible minute to cancel games in situations where rain may be moving in, but we will cancel as soon as possible when previous showers make the fields unplayable.
