NKYA runs a FALL ONLY soccer league at Richardson Road Park in Independence, KY with practices beginning in mid July to late July.
For the 2022 season, we will continue to play under the rules as implemented by US Youth Soccer. Please see the formats listed below.
U4 and U6 will continue to play in our in-house league, and they will remain coed.
U8, U10, and U12 will be playing in the NKSL league. The goal is to have gender separated teams, but due to numbers, we may have coed teams.

Age Policy
The cut-off date for fall soccer is January 1st. This means that your child's age on December 31st will determine what division your child will play in. We do have a "play up" policy. If your child is within 1 year of the next division up, then your child can "play up" in that division. Please contact the soccer administrator about playing-up.

Coaches
All of our coaches are 100% volunteers. They are typically a parent, relative, or friend of a player. If you are interested in coaching, please register yourself, and then under your account, you will see a "Volunteer" tab. Click on the tab and select the division that you would like to coach. All coaches must pass a background check prior to being selected as a coach. As a coach, NKYA, does not require you to purchase anything. NKYA will provide you with equipment, uniforms, and practice field. If you can provide your own practice facility, that would be great as we work every year to obtain additional fields for practices and games.
Practices
Our teams practice at Richardson Road Park in Independence. The fields are divided into 2 separate time slots during the week. Please note that we cannot fulfill any requests for specific practice locations or nights when registering. Our coaches select their practice slot after receiving their rosters.
Games
All U4 and U6 games are held Saturday mornings at Richardson Road Park. Games begin on the hour, every hour starting at 9am. The total number of teams will dictate how long the games run on Saturdays. Teams will get at least an 8 game schedule, but that is not guaranteed since we cannot control the weather. Games will begin mid August and run through the end of October.
U8, U10, and U12 games will be held at various other locations in NKY at various times on Saturdays and Sundays as they will be playing in the NKSL league. Each team will play an 8 game schedule starting mid August. May be less due to weather and inability to make up games. League does it's best to play all 8 games.
First Weekend of Games will begin on August 14th or 21st for all age groups.

U4 (2 & 3 year olds) - Cannot turn 4 prior to January 1st
- Registration fee is $65 and includes an 8 game season.
- 1 practice per week.
- 20 minute practice period prior to each game.
- 24 minute game length (4 - 6 minute quarters)
- 4v4 format, no goalie
- size 3 ball
U6 (4 & 5 year olds) - Cannot turn 6 prior to January 1st
- Registration fee is $65 and includes an 8 game season.
- 1 practice per week.
- 15 minute practice period prior to each game.
- 32 minute game length (4 - 8 minute quarters)
- 5v5 format including a goalie
- size 3 ball
U8 (6 & 7 year olds) - Cannot turn 8 prior to January 1st
- Registration fee is $95 and includes 8 game season.
- 1 practice per week.
- 48 minute game length (4- 12 minute quarters)
- 5v5 format includes goalie
- size 3 ball
* Teams will participate in the NKSL league.
U10 (8 & 9 year olds) - Cannot turn 10 prior to January 1st
- Registration fee is $95 and includes 8 game season.
- 1 practice per week.
- 50 minute game length (2 - 25 minute halves)
- 7v7 format, includes goalie
- size 4 ball
* Teams will participate in the NKSL league.
U12 (10 & 11 year olds) - Cannot turn 12 prior to January 1st
- Registration fee is $95 and includes 8 game season.
- 1 practice per week.
- 60 minute game length (2 - 30 minute halves)
- 9v9 format, includes goalie
- size 4 ball
* Teams will participate in the NKSL league.
Equipment
Below is the list of required and optional equipment to be supplied by the player. The league will supply the game jersey.
Required:
Shin guards
Socks - MUST cover the entire shin guards. Color for practices does not matter, but coaches may ask for a specific color to be worn for games.
Water Bottle - Players CANNOT share water bottles. Please make sure you pack plenty of water or sports drinks for those hot games.
Optional:
Cleats - Highly recommended. They MUST be soccer cleats as baseball cleats have a toe spike that is illegal.
Soccer Ball - Highly recommended. This gives the coach more options at practice, but also allows the player the opportunity to practice at home.
Weather Policy
A 20 minute delay will take place at the site of lightening or sound of thunder for all games and practices. The 20 minute delay will reset on the the latest sight of lightening or sound of thunder. Typically, a delay will cause a game to be cancelled unless it is the last game of the day as we have games running back-to-back every game day. When lightening is seen or thunder heard, everyone must leave the playing fields for shelter. You may only return once the all clear is given. On games at Richardson Road, an administrator will be making these calls, but during makeups and practices, this will be the coach's responsibility.
We utilize the app Rainout Line as our weather notification system. This is the system used for all Kenton County Parks. The app is available for both android and iOS phones. We also try to email and update our Facebook page when applicable.
Lastly, being an outdoor sport, the weather is a big impact. There will be times where games will get cancelled on the way to the field or once you get there. We monitor the weather, but we've seen numerous times where the storm dies or splits before hitting our fields allowing us to play ball. Therefore, we will hold off until the very last possible minute to cancel games in situations where rain may be moving in, but we will cancel as soon as possible when previous showers make the fields unplayable.
